LOTTERY OPENS FOR SRAM CANADIAN OPEN ENDURO PRESENTED BY SPECIALIZED
Crankworx prioritizes local athletes under new Enduro World Series race registration protocol
Whistler, B.C., Jan. 22, 2016 – After listening to the pleas of local riders keen on securing a spot in the SRAM Canadian Open Enduro presented by Specialized, Crankworx organizers are placing priority on local athletes for 2016.
This year, entry for all Enduro World Series events has changed to see race registration centralized, with the series leaving race directors 30 wildcard spots to use at their discretion, and otherwise taking control of registration so those who want to ride must apply to be entered in a lottery.
For the Whistler race, Crankworx race directors have deemed all 30 wildcard spots for the SRAM Canadian Open Enduro presented by Specialized will be used for top local racers.
“We wanted to make sure those local riders who revere this race, and put their heart and soul into making the Whistler race scene one of the best in the world, get a chance to ride with the top enduro athletes who return each summer. This is the race our locals want to be in for the 2016 season, and we are making sure the best of those racers have their shot,” says Darren Kinnaird, Crankworx general manager.
Names have been selected from the Crankworx Whistler podium finishes and the podiums of other enduro races in the Whistler area for the wildcards, including the first stop of the North American Enduro Tour, the Whistler Bike Park Funduros and several Sea to Sky Enduro Race Series events. Those who have made the wildcard list have already been notified.
Applications for all athletes without a secure spot to enter the lottery begins at >01:00 GMT Jan. 25, and will run for a full 24 hours via the EWS website. Racers will be notified of their application’s success with a link sent by email. The prospective racer must complete the registration process at this point in order to be entered in the race.
Interested athletes can begin sign up on at >01:00 GMT on Jan. 25 at enduroworldseries.com. Registration concludes at 23:59 Jan. 25.
