Georgia Astle’s 2024 Season: Rampage Podium, New Partnerships, and Global Adventures

Georgia Astle’s 2024 season was a game-changer, highlighted by new challenges, major wins, and podiums. Just as she is winding down for the holidays, she shared some insights into how the year has felt for her. This season also marked her first year with Outdoor Research, an exciting partnership that complements her riding.

How would you sum up your 2024 season, from Crankworx events to competing at Red Bull Rampage? What were some of the standout moments?
“I rode my bike in 11 different countries, travelled internationally for 3 different adventure-style trips, and had my best competitive season to date. With winning a whip off, winning Garbo DH, and podiuming in Rampage, I am truly so happy with my entire year and really proud of where I’ve gotten myself to in this space.”

You went from a Red Bull Rampage alternate to standing on the podium – how did you prepare mentally and physically for the event not knowing what was in store for your time in the desert?
“I function best while having a great time with the people around me, and that translates to me riding my bike better. I surrounded myself with an awesome crew that brought me up and focused on feeling good and riding within my scope. Rampage felt like a huge steppingstone, so I broke it down by first reminding myself that even if I rode a line similar to my Formation 2022, I would be proud to claim that. Anything I felt comfortable with beyond that would be a win. Physically, I wanted to be healthy and as comfortable on my Rampage bike setup as possible. Bike Park laps, loose terrain, digging practice, and repetitively hitting drops was my crunch time training.”

This is your first year partnered with Outdoor Research–how has this partnership influenced your approach to riding and involvement with different events?
“The inaugural year for OR in biking was an eye-opener for me to have such a strong connection with a brand and to feel fully supported. I don’t feel the pressure to pretend and force anything on my socials because I really do use and love all of their gear!”

What are some of your must-have Outdoor Research pieces when you’re getting ready for a ride?
“The Freewheel pants are a must-have for both trail rides and park laps. I even wore them most of the digging days at Rampage. They are my Swiss Army knife of bike kit. The Women’s Ferrosi hoodie is my go-to layer for the West Coast. I get really hot on the way up and love being warm and protected from wind and rain on the way down. I tie it around my waist or to my handlebars on the climbs. The Freewheel gloves are my ideal glove, minimalistic without weird seams that dig into your palms and touch screen friendly.”

The Pacific Northwest and Crankworx Whistler are known for  wet, loamy trails, while the desert at Red Bull Rampage is all about dry, rocky terrain. How do you adapt your riding style and mindset to handle such drastically different environments?
“Especially with our Rampage site this year, Virgin features need way less speed than bike park features. It’s so weird coming back and figuring out how to judge speed without trees as landmarks and all the take-offs being so blind. I take a mental note of how far back I stop braking on familiar drops and jumps at home to get comfy with gauging my speed to prepare for testing features for the first time. Knowing how to hit slow-speed vertical drops and brake control are the bread and butter of riding the desert.”

With 2024 winding down, what are you most excited about for the upcoming year?
“Honestly, just continuing to push myself and see what I can do in new and different places. The lessons from this season—mentally and physically—have set me up for some big things, and I can’t wait to take on whatever comes next!”

Thanks to Georgia for sharing her insights and experiences from an unforgettable 2024 season!  With her drive and strong support, 2025 looks like another amazing year for Georgia Astle. We hope to see her soon at Crankworx. Stay tuned for what’s next on her journey.
